About us
Grafoam AB was established in 2022 but the two founders, Jan Nordin and Farid Akhtar, have been developing new solutions for concrete since 2007. The company develops new technical solutions for high-performance concrete (HPC), in close cooperation with customers. Production and development in Sundsvall, and close collaboration with Luleå University of Technology.
Technology developed by Grafoam AB
The team at Grafoam AB develops solutions to some of the new challenges descibed above. We have developed and patented unique technology based on nano-materials that has the potential to make frost-resistant concrete that is stronger, more wear-resistant and less prone to cracking. The technology is named Arctic Shield and can be applied to all concrete, but can have special advantages when Portland cement is partially replaced with residual products from the industry. With the new technology, the development of alternative products for Portland cement can be accelerated.
Proof of concept
Tests at Luleå University of Technology have shown that the new technology can improve wear resistance of concrete by over 300%. By increasing the durability and strength of the concrete, we hope to reduce the frequency of repairs to exposed road surfaces, loading zones and other surfaces exposed by heavy traffic. This would lead to reduced costs, but also savings in natural resources and environmental benefits.
This work has been made possible by engaging noumerous Master´s students, doctoral students and postdocs. Over the years, around a dozen young researchers, men and women, have contributed to the evaluation of our technology.
